PAM & ADRIAN

HOW DID YOU MEET?

What’s funny is we had the same best friend yet never met. I feel our friend, Jesse, must have split all his time between us. There’s literally pictures of us at the same party 10 years ago but, somehow, we never really talked to each other. He remembers meeting me at a bar called Lolas and having a full blown conversation that I literally don’t remember. But that was 100% me because he remembered my dog‘s name and knew my job. One evening, Jesse invited me out to hang with a girl he was talking to and Adrian happened to be there. We went to Love Buzz and decided to try to give Jesse as much space a possible since he was technically on a date. Adrian and I hung back and really talked for the first time ever. We instantly clicked and hung out all night. We went to an after hours place and talked till the sun came up. He moved in a week later. Pregnant with our baby girl a month later. There literally was zero doubt he was “the one” from day one. Here we are five years later. When you know you know.

THE PROPOSAL

After having our daughter, I was sick all of the time. Turns out, it was worse than I thought it was. Adrian, being a wonderful boyfriend, sat with me at every doctors appointment. He suggested that, to cheer me up after my doctors appointment, we go to the natural science museum to see the new moon installation. This location was significant because it held my happiest childhood memories. It was a happy place for my deceased sister and I.

Well we left the doctors appointment only to have horrible car trouble in 90 degree weather in a med center parking garage. After all that sweat and frustration, he was still determined to go to the museum. So we went, looking all disheveled and sweaty because...why not? We went to the gem vault. we went here on our first official date just two days after our long conversation and I knew ai loved him. I’m looking at a the large amethyst only to turn around and see him on one knee. He has our daughter with him and he hands me a beautiful aquamarine ring (I hate diamonds and he knew it). The only problem, he was so nervous he forgot to ask me an simply ask, “Well, would you?” To which I replied, “ Well, put it on me then.”

WHEN IT CAME TO PLANNING YOUR WEDDING, WHAT WERE SOME OF THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS YOU INCORPORATED THAT MADE IT YOUR DREAM WEDDING?

I really was going for small local businesses. I most importantly sought out women and minority owned companies. Since we were still in a pandemic they were hit harder and I want my beautiful Houston to thrive. I truly am an art lover and enjoy my world in color. Our favorite color is purple but, I felt that we needed something soft since it was a wedding and went with mauve. The venue for the ceremony was perfect in that my husband is a wonderful artist so an art gallery owned by a black women checked every box! Plus, it is block away from where we practically live and have a studio - it felt like fate! Especially with my love off all Art Deco and the 1920s vibe. The red brick buildings and the weird lace pattern really did that! Other than that. I wanted the vibe of a wedding without the stuck up boring feeling. Just a comfortable and relaxing day. With people we love and see often.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH COUPLES WHO ARE RECENTLY ENGAGED AND PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Not everything has to be top of the line fancy. Don’t stress things being perfect. All the love and happy energy is what’s important. You will remember that feeling of being so in love and excited more than if your napkins are paper or cloth.

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL COUPLES WHO ARE CONSIDERING USING RIVERS LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY TO DOCUMENT THEIR ENGAGEMENT AND WEDDING DAY?

Literally let her be free. I gave her no demands or specifics and she nailed everything! She has a creative eye not many are blessed with. She will handle everything. Just relax knowing you are in beyond capable hands. Her talent will shine in all your photographs.
